.NET User Group

Fellow .Net Users,

It's finally time for our first meeting of 2018! Before we get into that, though, I wanted to remind you about the second group that Brian Olson and I are working on. If you're interested in real-world autonomous vehicles, you should definitely join us at the Omaha DIY Robo Car group https://www.meetup.com/diy-robocars-omaha/. We're just getting started and we would love to have you join us.

Also, don't forget that we're in the process of soliciting your opinion about the .NET UG. For more info, please refer to the email that I sent on December 27th. Everyone who responds to that email will be entered into a contest to win a $50 Amazon gift card!

Let's get back to this group. The next installment of the Omaha .NET User's Group will take place on Thursday, January 25th, starting at 6:00 PM. Food and drink will be served by our sponsor starting 15-20 minutes before the meeting takes place.

After the meeting, we'll be meeting at Local Beer, Patio, and Kitchen in Millard (4909 S 135th St #113) for drinks and appetizers provider by our friends at Harbinger Partners!

Topic:
SmartThings.NET

With over 39 million home-assistant devices sold this Christmas, it's clear the home-automation market has exploded. However, the technology behind these devices is still in its infancy, and integration behind the numerous technologies can be painful and cumbersome. This presentation will focus primarily on Samsung's SmartThings hub and C# to demonstrate one method of using these technologies to ease the integration of various smart-home and security devices.

Matt's commentary: uh-oh... I can see already that this is going to cost me. ;-)

Speaker:
Eric Peters lives in frozen Omaha, Nebraska with his lovely wife, two teen-aged daughters, an ugly dog, and a bowl of unexplained gray-green substance recently discovered in his daughter's bedroom. He's convinced this substance is a unique sentient life-form, and has therefore named him Antonio and adopted him as his son.

Eric is a glutton for punishment, and has once again jumped head first into the frenetic and unforgiving landscape of startups as the Director of IT for SportsSesnse. At SportsSense, he applies his 20+ years of deeply technical software development experience to educate executives on how to reboot their computers and check email on their wildly outdated smart-phones. On the rare occasion when the planets align, he builds sub-millisecond-precise reaction-time based tasks used to assess the neuro-cognitive capabilities of professional, college, and youth athletes.

In his spare time, he slowly develops tools to improve his home-automation and security systems to protect against the day Antonio rises up against him and his family.
